Wellington County and Dufferin County Wind Turbine News and Concerns

Oppose Belwood Wind Farm Association is a non-profit organization that was incorporated at the beginning of 2010 by a group of residents in Wellington County and Dufferin County.
It began in opposition to the Belwood Wind Farm that has been quiet recently since being sold by Invenergy to TransCanada but there is every likelihood of this project along with many others being revived once the new Bruce to Milton transmission line is in operation.
OBWF has since expanded to become the voice of local residents who are concerned about the proliferation of large scale wind energy projects throughout this largely rural farming and recreational area.
This website has two main goals:
- to be source of information about the status of wind energy projects that already exist or are being planned for our communities
- to inform people about the Green Energy Act process and how they can become involved in stopping or limiting large scale wind energy projects
The completion of the twinning of the Bruce to Milton transmission line, part of which runs through the western Dufferin county townships of East Luther-Grand Valley and East Garafraxa, is scheduled to be completed in 2013 and will become the connection point for many more planned wind energy projects.
Whether landowners will be as receptive to signing agreements allowing wind turbines on their properties now that the damaging effects of large scale wind turbines and the legal and financial risks of these contracts are becoming better known remains to be seen.
The Ontario Wind Turbine Contracts website at www.owtc.ca contains commentary on wind turbine contracts under Ontario’s Green Energy Act and may be of interest to landowners who are still considering whether or not they wish to enter into one of these agreements.
